About this series:
Visual narratives derived from memories of growing up in the projects of Sheesphead Bay, NY late 70s and 80s. The works feel as if they are a collaboration of marks in the same way telephone booths and trains became filled with graffiti and stickers. Eroded pictures on top of images, song lyrics and quotes, graffiti and advertisement stickers - “The words of the prophet’s are written on the subway walls and tenement halls”.
Each painting with a particular mantra ranging from “love” to “prosperity. I pay homage to post-war American art and neo-expressionists. Icons from the world’s religions and philosophies, pictures torn from art and fashion magazines and references to lyrics from my favorite bands find their way on my canvas. Affirmation is also found in mantras, spells and the lyrics of popular music and I can close my eyes in the studio, listening to a favorite track and see the energy of the city in my mind’s eye and that pushes me to paint what I feel and to roughly organize the narrative of the painting to fit a particular theme.

About this series:
My work tells visual stories rooted in memory and mantra - born from growing up in New York and reborn through bold, layered canvases that feel like the walls of the city itself: covered in graffiti, peeling posters, rust, and old stickers - marks stacked on top of each other, never fully erased, each layer adding to the story.
Lately, my focus has expanded West. My latest series draws inspiration from cowgirl iconography and Western landscapes, layered with the same urgency and empowerment that’s always fueled my practice. These pieces channel the strength of women who ride their own path, gritty, glamorous, unapologetic.
Each painting holds a personal mantra, words like resilience,freedom, or prosperity. These affirmations appear in scraps of song lyrics, quotes and text on the canvas. What results is a narrative built in layers- pop culture, empowerment, post-war American art, neo-expressionist energy, and personal iconography.

This painting was original inspired by memories of living in NYC during the creative 80s. Huge couture posters would line the tiled subway walls but after time they would have graffiti and little stories over them that were intriguing. That is how it started but then the idea of female empowerment started to come into the narrative. Women are strong, and these are intended to have fashion elements but more importantly that of empowerment, strength and sharing that women are strong and beautiful in every way in and out. Visual narratives derived from memories of growing up in the projects of Sheesphead Bay, NY late 70s and 80s. The works feel as if they are a collaboration of marks in the same way telephone booths and trains became filled with graffiti and stickers. Eroded pictures on top of images, song lyrics and quotes, graffiti and advertisement stickers - “The words of the prophet’s are written on the subway walls and tenement halls”.
Each painting with a particular mantra ranging from “love” to “prosperity. I pay homage to post-war American art and neo-expressionists. Icons from the world’s religions and philosophies, pictures torn from art and fashion magazines and references to lyrics from my favorite bands find their way on my canvas. Affirmation is also found in mantras, spells and the lyrics of popular music and I can close my eyes in the studio, listening to a favorite track and see the energy of the city in my mind’s eye and that pushes me to paint what I feel and to roughly organize the narrative of the painting to fit a particular theme.

About this series:
Drawing from my previous successful series from 2017, Deconstructed, where I incorporated tailoring patterns as the foundation for my compositions, I now explore the shapes and juxtapositions that intrigued me. Combining ink transfer techniques and digital manipulation of pop art and other images, I create a secondary composition that overlaps the drawings of the tailoring patterns. The textured ground of the artwork resembles both the marks commonly found in tailoring and the intricate lines of nautical maps, evoking a sense of journey and discovery. Within this rich tapestry, you'll find words, phrases, lyrics, and sonnets, as if it were a roadmap guiding you on an endless adventure. The finished surface is created with self-leveling medium, which not only seals the surface but also adds a three-dimensional quality to the underlying layers. To enhance its uniqueness, I have used cold wax and buffed it to create an intriguing, encaustic-like feel.

About this series:
This is the first painting of a series of 10 large works I am currently working on. It still is part of my subway sonnet series as the textures and surfaces are the same but there are new elements. The inspiration for this struck me when I reminisced about the old posters that I remember on the walls of New York City's subways and streets. These posters, while featuring beautiful imagery, had weathered the test of time, displaying fading, erosion, graffiti, and various textures. I've always found perfection and unblemished beauty somewhat dull. It's the amalgamation of these weathered elements that I find nostalgic and perfectly balanced.
As I continue to work on this series, I realized that the theme of strong women emerged, much like in many of my other works.
This painting is created with an ink transfer technique and then built upon with thick pigment sticks, paper, and more. The entire surface is sealed with a protective varnish.
