SUSAN WASHINGTON FINE ART

COME INTO THE ROOM

Art about women who changed the conversation - and the women who are still changing it.

Live with the women who remind you to be louder, braver, and entirely yourself.

48ā€ x 48ā€ | MAKE DIFFERENCE ORDINARY

SOME WOMEN REFUSED TO STAY IN THEIR PLACE.

They made art. Made discoveries. Broke rules. Raised their voices. Changed minds. And changed what was possible for the women who came after them.

Their stories come together across a body of work about women who refused to disappear.

Not as history. As conversation.

LOOK CLOSER.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Rosa Parks. Irena Sendler. Hypatia. Emmeline Pankhurst. Artists. Activists. Thinkers. Performers. Women who challenged what was expected of them in completely different ways.

Different centuries. Different battles. The same refusal to disappear.

I’m Susan Washington.

I make art about women, identity, culture and the things we're sometimes told not to say.

My work combines layers of imagery, words and cultural references to create paintings that reveal themselves differently the longer you live with them.

I don't believe art should simply fill a wall.

I think it should start a conversation.

COME INTO THE ROOM

Something is beginning in Washington DC.

I'm bringing together art, conversation, and women for a series of intimate gatherings and private viewings in the Washington, D.C. area.
