ART WITH SOMETHING TO SAY.

My work is about the things that stay with us - identity, culture, memory, resilience, and the people and ideas that shape how we see the world.

Every piece starts with a story. The rest is yours to find.

I'm Susan Washington, a mixed-media artist based in Baltimore.

My work layers photography, paint, transferred imagery and handwritten text to explore memory, identity, culture and the stories we carry with us. From Subway Sonnets to works celebrating women who have challenged, shaped and changed the world, each piece is built through layers - fragments of history, found imagery, words and marks that become something new.

My work has been exhibited and collected internationally and has appeared in film and television.
