Original Contemporary Figurative Mixed-Media Painting with Gold Leaf | 30 × 40 Inches

A God by Any Other Name is a one-of-a-kind original mixed-media painting by contemporary artist Susan Washington. Featuring a classical sculptural figure against a richly textured gold-leaf background, the work combines expressive black mark-making, layered surfaces, and bold pink typography. Presented in a silver float frame.

Part of Washington's Subway Sonnets series, the painting explores the intersection of classical beauty and contemporary urban culture. Inspired by the weathered posters, graffiti, and layered surfaces of 1980s New York City, the work reimagines an ancient figure as a modern icon, questioning how our ideas of beauty, identity, and cultural significance evolve over time.
